Today we are leaving Doolin and Mattie and Carmel. We sure have enjoyed our stay here and I hope to return one day. Not a very pleasant start, cold and misty and rainy. We wanted to see the Cliffs before we left so we took Brigitta(sorry if it's spelled wrong) and went off to see the Cliffs of Moher. Unfortunately, the fog rolled in and we couldn't see much. And the wind very nearly knocked us over. The visitors center was marvelous and very informative. I think I enjoyed that more. At least we got a good picture of the Cliifs from an inside exhibit.
We left Brig to walk back and off we went to Clonmucnoise and the bogs. The ride was pleasant and the day seemed to brighten up some.
We saw turf cutting from the car. They actually run a power plant using that as fuel. The bogs are very deep, thousands of years of accumulation of plants, trees and animals. The color is a rich deep brown. Artists are using dried turf as an art medium. It looks like teak. Clonmucnoise is more inland on the river Shannon. It was built by St Cieran (hard C) around 592 AD. It was at a very strategic spot so it got raided many times by just about everyone. Poor St. Cieran died young, 33, and is buried there. The high crosses are wonderfully carved and still in good shape. It was a beautiful site.
Now we had to locate our B&B. Called them and the man gave us coordinates to plug in, which I did, but apparently I don't know how because we ended up on a country lane after a hair raising ride on a country road, in the middle of nowhere. We eventually found our way to thi,s off the beaten path, B&B. An old country farm home done over. I felt like a queen as Lesley, our proprieteer, had thought of every little detail. We even had a tea service in our room. Breakfast was grand. An Irish breakfast for Tom and a continental one for me. Yes, we got to order our own. I was taking note of all these elegant touches in case I might want to open one down the road. And I will leave you on this note as I walked miles today and can't keep my eyes open. Ta Ta. Love you mom.
Sorry about the delay with pics but the WiFi would not cooperate.
